About

The idea for Faces of the Newsroom was hatched – as many good ideas are – as my husband and I enjoyed craft beers late at night after the kids were put to bed.

We are journalists. We love journalists. We believe that community education drives journalists. And, that is why we are here – to tell the stories of the men and women working to bring the news to the public every day.

About Rachel Swick Mavity

A former journalist who worked for a decade on publications from Connecticut to Maryland and Delaware. It was at the Cape Gazette in Lewes, Delaware, where she cut her teeth as a journalist. She covered county government, environmental issues, healthcare, and more. Today, she works as a communications specialist for a healthcare system and is the content coordinator for a monthly magazine in Lewes.

About Ryan Mavity

Since 2007, Ryan has worked as a town beat reporter for the Cape Gazette. He also writes occasionally for a heavy metal blog and is working on a sports book. Ryan was lucky enough to walk into the Cape Gazette and meet the love of his life and the two of them continue to share their passion for journalism, current events, travel, food, craft beer, and of course, their two lovely children.
